CSL, ZTE Team Up for LTE/DC-HSPA+ Commercial Network
December 03, 2010

Hong Kong-based telecom operator CSL owned by Australian telecom operator Telstra recently announced that the company entered a strategic agreement with Chinese telecom equipment supplier ZTE, under which they will jointly launch a commercial network based on LTE (Long Term Evolution) technology and CSL's DC-HSPA+ (Dual Channel-Advanced High Speed Packet Access) technology, the Sohu IT News reported on December 1. With the use of DC-HSPA+, which can send or receive wireless data using two channels simultaneously at a theoretical speed of up to 42Mbps, the combination of these two technologies will help double the speed possible with HSPA+ so as to provide users the fastest possible network connection, allowing them to access 3DTV, interactive gaming and e-learning applications even when no LTE coverage is present, according to the same source. As there is yet to have any modems supporting LTE and DC-HSPA+ technologies, CSL will initially deliver services only to corporate users. However, the company plans to introduce services based on these two technologies to individual users in the first quarter of 2011 and is expected to see more devices available in the market by then.
